Description

A simple and delicious recipe for pan-fried walleye with a crispy exterior and tender, flaky inside.

Ingredients

  • 2 walleye fillets (thawed)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese (fresh, finely grated)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: Pour approximately 1 cup of vegetable oil into a skillet and heat over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  2. Prepare the fish: Remove any skin from the walleye fillets if necessary and pat dry on both sides with a paper towel.
  3. Set up your dredging station: Beat the egg in a shallow dish. In another shallow dish, mix panko breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  4. Coat the fillets: Dip each fillet into the egg, then press both sides into the breadcrumb mixture to coat thoroughly.
  5. Fry the fish: Place the coated fillets into the hot oil and fry for about 3 minutes per side, until golden brown with an internal temperature of 145°F.
  6. Drain and serve: Transfer the cooked fillets to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil, serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the skillet, and let coated fillets rest before frying for better results.
