Ingredients
- – 2 lbs (1 kg) chicken wings, split
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) baking powder
- – 1/2 cup (120 ml) tamari gluten-free soy sauce
- – 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
- – 1/3 cup (80 ml) honey
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar
- – 2 teaspoon (10 ml) fresh ginger, finely grated
- – 4 cloves garlic, minced
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) sesame oil
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) cornstarch, or arrowroot powder
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) water
Instructions
- In a small pan, mix together the tamari, water, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil.
- Warm the mixture until it starts to gently bubble.
- While that is heating, create a thickening mixture by blending cornstarch with water. Pour this into the bubbling sauce and continue to stir until it becomes slightly thicker and shiny, which should take about 45 seconds to a minute. Then, take it off the heat.
- Coat the chicken wings by tossing them with baking powder.
- Place them in a single layer inside the basket of an air fryer. You might need to cook them in multiple rounds if your air fryer is small.
- Cook at 400°F for 10 minutes, then either shake the basket or turn the wings over. Cook for another 10 minutes. Check if the internal temperature has reached 165°F; if not, cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Once done, remove the wings from the air fryer, place them in a bowl, and coat with the teriyaki glaze. Optionally, garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions before serving.
Notes
- Thoroughly coat chicken wings with baking powder for a crispy texture in the air fryer.
- Adjust cooking time based on wing size and quantity to ensure they reach 165°F.
- Marinate wings in teriyaki glaze before cooking for a stronger flavor. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions for visual appeal.
