Description

A heartwarming casserole that combines creamy grits, succulent shrimp, and gooey cheese, perfect for family gatherings and special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a pot, bring water to a boil and add grits. Cook according to package instructions until creamy.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sauté until translucent.
  4. Add shrimp to the skillet, cooking until pink and cooked through.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked grits, shrimp mixture, milk, and cheddar cheese. Stir until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased casserole dish.
  7. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For best results, use freshly grated cheddar cheese. Experiment with seasonings for extra depth.
