A flavorful Cajun classic featuring shrimp in a rich, seasoned sauce served over rice.
Ingredients
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice
- Chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the flour and cook until it turns a golden brown, about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the diced onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic; sauté until vegetables are soft.
- Add the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Add the shrimp and cook until they are pink and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes.
- Serve over cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions.
Notes
For a spicier kick, adjust the Cajun seasoning to taste. Pair with crusty bread for a complete meal.
