Description

A flavorful Cajun classic featuring shrimp in a rich, seasoned sauce served over rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook until it turns a golden brown, about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  3. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic; sauté until vegetables are soft.
  4. Add the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well and bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  6. Add the shrimp and cook until they are pink and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes.
  7. Serve over cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

For a spicier kick, adjust the Cajun seasoning to taste. Pair with crusty bread for a complete meal.
