Description

A vibrant medley of succulent shrimp and bold spices, Shrimp Creole is a family favorite that brings warmth and flavor to your table.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup chicken or seafood stock
  • 1 tablespoon Creole seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 4 cups cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Finely chop the onion, green bell pepper, and celery. Mince the garlic and ensure your shrimp are peeled and deveined.
  2. Cook the Sauce: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté these vegetables until they become tender, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  3. Season the Sauce: Stir in the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce with the sautéed vegetables. Pour in the chicken or seafood stock, followed by the Creole seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if desired). Add Worcestershire sauce, bay leaves, and optional sugar. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Cook the Shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until they turn pink and opaque, about 5-7 minutes. Avoid overcooking.
  5. Serve the Dish: Remove the bay leaves. Spoon the shrimp creole over a bed of white rice. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For an extra kick, adjust the cayenne pepper to your preference. Fresh shrimp are preferred for the best flavor and texture.
