A comforting Southern dish featuring creamy grits topped with succulent shrimp and crispy bacon.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grits
- 4 cups water
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup diced bell pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- In a pot, bring water to a boil and stir in the grits. Cook according to package instructions until thickened.
- Stir in the cheddar cheese and season with salt and pepper.
- In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
- Add the shrimp and cook until pink, about 3-4 minutes.
- Serve the shrimp mixture over the grits and garnish with chopped green onions.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider using low sodium broth instead of water for cooking grits.
