Description

A comforting Southern dish featuring creamy grits topped with succulent shrimp and crispy bacon.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish


Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring water to a boil and stir in the grits. Cook according to package instructions until thickened.
  2. Stir in the cheddar cheese and season with salt and pepper.
  3. In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy.
  4. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
  5. Add the shrimp and cook until pink, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Serve the shrimp mixture over the grits and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider using low sodium broth instead of water for cooking grits.
