A comforting Southern dish featuring creamy grits and succulent shrimp, topped with crispy bacon and fresh green onions.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grits
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 4 strips bacon, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a pot, bring the water to a boil. Stir in the grits and cook according to package instructions until thickened.
- Stir in butter and cheese until melted and combined.
- In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In the same skillet, add the shrimp and cook until pink, about 2-3 minutes per side. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in green onions and season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the shrimp over the creamy grits, topped with crispy bacon.
Notes
For the best flavor, use fresh shrimp and consider adding stock instead of water for a richer base.
