Description
A classic southern comfort dish featuring creamy, cheesy grits topped with succulent shrimp and crispy bacon.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grits
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot.
- Add the grits to the boiling water, and cook according to package directions until thickened.
- Stir in the cheese, allowing it to melt into the grits. Keep the mixture warm.
- In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
- In the same skillet, add the shrimp. Cook the shrimp for about 3-4 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
- Season with salt and pepper, then add 1 tablespoon of butter for richness.
- To serve, spoon the creamy cheese grits onto a plate, top generously with sautéed shrimp, and sprinkle crispy bacon and green onions over the top.
Notes
For a spicy kick, incorporate cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the shrimp while cooking.
