Description

A classic southern comfort dish featuring creamy, cheesy grits topped with succulent shrimp and crispy bacon.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot.
  2. Add the grits to the boiling water, and cook according to package directions until thickened.
  3. Stir in the cheese, allowing it to melt into the grits. Keep the mixture warm.
  4. In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  5. In the same skillet, add the shrimp. Cook the shrimp for about 3-4 minutes until they turn pink and opaque.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, then add 1 tablespoon of butter for richness.
  7. To serve, spoon the creamy cheese grits onto a plate, top generously with sautéed shrimp, and sprinkle crispy bacon and green onions over the top.

Notes

For a spicy kick, incorporate cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the shrimp while cooking.
