Description

A delightful dish featuring sushi-grade ahi tuna crusted with sesame seeds, offering a perfect blend of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs sushi grade ahi tuna steaks
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Smoked sea salt (for serving)
  • Sliced green onion (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil to create a marinade.
  3. Place the tuna steaks in the marinade and let them sit for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. In another bowl, combine sesame seeds, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt to form the sesame crust.
  5. Remove the tuna from the marinade and press each steak into the sesame mixture, coating it thoroughly.
  6. Grill or sear the tuna steaks for 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or longer if you prefer them cooked through.
  7. Serve with smoked sea salt and sliced green onion.

Notes

Allow tuna to rest after cooking to ensure juiciness. Experiment with flavors by adjusting ingredients or adding chili flakes for heat.
