Ingredients
- – 2 lb (900g to 1kg) chicken wings (wingettes and drumettes)
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) smoked paprika
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) pepper
- – 1 cup tomato sauce (240 ml)
- – 1 tablespoon date syrup (about 15 ml)
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) brown sugar
- – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) apple cider vinegar
- – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) smoked paprika
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) black pepper
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) salt
- – 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) chili powder (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the wings by drying them thoroughly with paper towels, which is essential for achieving crispiness.
- Coat the wings by mixing them with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Cook the wings initially by placing them in the air fryer at 390°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes, making sure to shake them halfway. Check at the 15-minute mark as air fryers can differ.
- Create the sauce by blending all sauce ingredients in a saucepan on medium heat. Let it simmer for 5–8 minutes, stirring now and then until it thickens and becomes glossy. Adjust the taste if needed.
- Combine the wings with the sauce until they are well-coated. Place them back in the air fryer for 2–3 minutes to allow the glaze to caramelize.
Notes
- – For a spicier flavor, enhance the wing seasoning mixture with 1/4 teaspoon of chili powder before cooking.
- – Customize the sauce’s sweetness by adjusting the amount of brown sugar and date syrup to suit your taste.
- – Ensure even crispiness by shaking the wings halfway through cooking in the air fryer; stir the simmering sauce occasionally to prevent burning.
