Description

A simple yet impressive dish featuring Ahi tuna steaks seared and topped with a fragrant garlic butter sauce.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 ounces Ahi tuna steaks, fresh or frozen, sushi-grade
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the Ahi tuna steaks dry with a paper towel and season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, and lemon juice. Set aside.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and let it get hot for about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Place the tuna steaks in the pan and sear for 1-2 minutes on each side until the outside develops a golden crust while keeping the center rare.
  5. Remove the tuna from the pan and set it aside. Lower the heat and add the garlic butter mixture to the same pan. Stir constantly for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.
  6. Return the tuna steaks to the pan and spoon the garlic butter sauce over each piece. Cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute to coat the tuna and warm it slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and transfer the tuna to a serving plate. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

Adjust cooking time based on the thickness of the tuna steaks. Slicing thin and adding lemon juice can help revive overcooked fish.
