Ingredients
- – 1 cup (240 ml) all-purpose flour
- – 1 cup (240 ml) water
- – 1 cup (240 ml) vegetable oil
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
- – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sugar
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
- – 1 large egg
- – 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine water, vegetable oil, salt, and sugar. Heat on high until it starts to boil.
- Lower the heat, add the flour slowly, and stir until a dough forms. Turn off the heat.
- Transfer the dough to a large bowl and let it cool for about 4-5 minutes.
- Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract using an electric mixer until well blended.
- Fill a piping bag with the mixture. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Lightly coat the basket with a neutral nonstick spray, such as coconut oil.
- Carefully pipe small churro shapes into the air fryer, avoiding overcrowding. You may need to cook in multiple batches. Alternatively, you can use a spoon to place them in the air fryer.
- Lightly brush the churros with oil and cook for 12-15 minutes until they turn golden brown. Repeat with the remaining dough. In a shallow dish, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
- After cooking, remove the churros and roll them in the sugar-cinnamon blend until they are evenly coated.
- If the sugar-cinnamon mix doesn’t stick well, apply a little melted butter or a spray of water or nonstick spray on the churros before rolling them in the mixture.
- Enjoy with your choice of chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella.
Notes
- Consider enhancing the dough mixture with a touch of ground nutmeg or a sprinkle of cinnamon for a more robust flavor.
- Ensure the churro bites are evenly spaced in the air fryer to achieve uniform cooking and a crispy texture.
- Keep the churro bites warm and crispy by placing them on a wire rack in a low oven (200°F) until ready to serve.
