Ingredients

  • – 1 cup (240 ml) all-purpose flour
  • – 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • – 1 cup (240 ml) vegetable oil
  • – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
  • – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sugar
  • – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • – 1 large egg
  • – 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) ground cinnamon


Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, vegetable oil, salt, and sugar. Heat on high until it starts to boil.
  2. Lower the heat, add the flour slowly, and stir until a dough forms. Turn off the heat.
  3. Transfer the dough to a large bowl and let it cool for about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract using an electric mixer until well blended.
  5. Fill a piping bag with the mixture. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Lightly coat the basket with a neutral nonstick spray, such as coconut oil.
  6. Carefully pipe small churro shapes into the air fryer, avoiding overcrowding. You may need to cook in multiple batches. Alternatively, you can use a spoon to place them in the air fryer.
  7. Lightly brush the churros with oil and cook for 12-15 minutes until they turn golden brown. Repeat with the remaining dough. In a shallow dish, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  8. After cooking, remove the churros and roll them in the sugar-cinnamon blend until they are evenly coated.
  9. If the sugar-cinnamon mix doesn’t stick well, apply a little melted butter or a spray of water or nonstick spray on the churros before rolling them in the mixture.
  10. Enjoy with your choice of chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella.
