Description

Delicious grilled tuna steaks marinated in a savory-sweet teriyaki sauce, perfect for summer dinners.

Ingredients

  • 4 tuna steaks (6 oz each, about 1-inch thick)
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin (or 2 tbsp rice vinegar plus 1 tbsp sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced finely
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil until smooth.
  2. Place the tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they’re well-coated.
  3. Marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, ensuring the grates are clean.
  5. Remove tuna steaks from the marinade and pat dry.
  6. Grill the steaks for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, basting with the reserved marinade.
  7. Once the glaze is glossy and caramelized, remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

Serve with a refreshing cucumber salad or steamed rice for a well-rounded meal. Resting the tuna after grilling allows the juices to redistribute.
