Ingredients
- – 1 lb (450g) carrots
- – 2 tablespoon (30 ml) cornstarch or tapioca starch
- – 2 tablespoon (30 ml) olive oil or avocado oil
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) salt
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) smoked paprika
- – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) garlic powder
- – 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) black pepper ground
Instructions
- Start by peeling the carrots and slicing them into even fry-like pieces. I usually divide each carrot into three sections, then slice each section into 4-6 fry-shaped pieces, depending on thickness.
- Place the carrot sticks in a mixing bowl and sprinkle with cornstarch. Toss them around with a spoon until covered. Transfer them to a colander and shake over the sink several times to ensure a light coating of starch on each piece.
- Return the carrot fries to the bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with all the seasonings. Stir to ensure they are evenly coated.
- Set your basket-style air fryer to 400°F and let it preheat for a few minutes. Cook the carrot fries for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket three times throughout the cooking process.
- Enjoy them by themselves or paired with a dipping sauce of your choice.
Notes
- Shake carrot fries in a colander to remove excess cornstarch for a crispier texture before air frying.
- Experiment with seasonings like cumin, chili powder, or parmesan cheese for a unique flavor twist.
- Check carrot fries periodically while cooking to prevent burning, as cooking times may vary depending on the air fryer model.
