Ingredients
- 1 lb (454 g) chicken thighs, skin-on bone-in or boneless
- 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) sesame seeds, for garnishing
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) green onions, finely chopped for garnishing
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetarian stir fry sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) honey or maple syrup, brown sugar, or light corn syrup
- 1/2 tbsp (7.5 ml) sesame oil
- 1 tsp (5 ml) dark soy sauce
- 1 tsp (5 ml) vegetable broth
- 1 tsp (5 ml) grated ginger
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) black pepper
Instructions
- Begin by carefully removing the bone from the chicken thighs using a sharp knife, making small cuts around the bone until it can be taken out easily. If the chicken thighs are already boneless, you can skip this step.
- Place the chicken thighs into a spacious bowl. Add all the marinade ingredients to the bowl and thoroughly rub them into the chicken until fully covered. Allow the chicken to marinate for 15 minutes, or leave it in the refrigerator overnight for more intense flavor.
- Lightly coat the air fryer basket with vegetable oil or a cooking spray, or use parchment paper designed for air fryers to line the base.
- Arrange the chicken thighs in a single, flat layer in the basket, ensuring the skin side faces up. Depending on your air fryer’s capacity, you may need to cook in multiple batches.
- Cook the chicken in the air fryer for 8-9 minutes at a temperature of 375 degrees F, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 F using a digital thermometer, and the skin turns a golden brown. There is no need to turn the chicken midway through cooking. Keep an eye on the cooking as times may vary with different air fryers.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken and cut it into slices. Finish by sprinkling sesame seeds and green onions on top for garnishing.
