Ingredients

  • 1 lb (454 g) bone-in chicken thighs or boneless chicken thighs
  • 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) sesame seeds for garnishing
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) green onions finely chopped for garnishing
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetarian stir fry sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) honey or maple syrup, brown sugar, or light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tbsp (7.5 ml) sesame oil
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) ginger grated
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) black pepper


Instructions

  1. Carefully cut around the bone of the chicken thighs using a sharp knife to remove it, unless you are using chicken thighs that are already boneless, in which case you can skip this step.
  2. Place the chicken thighs in a large bowl. Add the ingredients for the marinade to the bowl and mix them into the chicken until well coated. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least 15 minutes or leave it in the refrigerator overnight for a more intense flavor.
  3. Apply a light coat of vegetable oil or cooking spray to the air fryer’s basket, or alternatively, line the basket with air fryer parchment paper.
  4. Arrange the chicken thighs in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are in a single layer and the skin is facing upward. You might have to cook them in multiple rounds based on the capacity of your air fryer.
  5. Cook the chicken in the air fryer for 8 to 9 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit using a digital instant-read thermometer and the skin is golden brown. There’s no need to turn them over midway. Remember, cooking times can vary depending on your air fryer, so keep an eye on them.
  6. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it and cut into slices. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions as a garnish.
