Description

Slow-cooked French dip sandwiches made with tender shredded beef, melted provolone cheese, and toasty hoagie rolls.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Hoagie rolls
  • Sliced provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Place the sliced onion and garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Rub the beef chuck roast with salt and pepper and place it on top of the onions.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the beef broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Pour this mixture over the beef.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the beef is tender.
  5. Once cooked, remove the beef and shred it with two forks.
  6. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and stir it into the juices.
  7. Toast hoagie rolls, place the shredded beef inside, top with provolone cheese, and serve with the au jus for dipping.

Notes

Allow the beef to rest for a few minutes after shredding for maximum flavor. Toasting the hoagie rolls adds a delightful crunch.
