Description

A luxurious Crab and Shrimp Seafood Bisque that combines sweet crab meat and succulent shrimp in a creamy broth, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound cooked shrimp (peeled, deveined, and chopped)
  • 1/2 pound cooked crab meat (shells removed)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup celery (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup carrot (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 4 cups seafood or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp sherry (optional)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh herbs (parsley, chives, or dill for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped celery, carrot, and onion, sautéing for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Incorporate the minced garlic for an additional minute.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, paprika, and optional cayenne pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir for 2 minutes to form a roux.
  5. Slowly pour in the seafood or chicken broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Let the bisque simmer for 10-12 minutes. Stir in sherry if using.
  7. Lower heat to medium-low and add the heavy cream.
  8. Gently fold in the shrimp and crab meat. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  10. Ladle into bowls and garnish with fresh herbs. Serve hot.

Notes

For a brighter flavor, consider adding a squeeze of lemon juice before serving. Adjust the vegetable ratios based on your preferences.
