Description

Delicious and crispy Chicken Tempura Rolls filled with fresh ingredients that create a delightful contrast. Perfect for a special dining experience at home.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 ¼ cups water
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 400g chicken breast, cut into strips
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup ice water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 4-6 sheets of nori
  • Optional fillings: sliced avocado, cucumber strips, julienned carrots, lettuce, mayonnaise, Sriracha, soy sauce, unagi sauce (eel sauce), sesame seeds (for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until it runs clear.
  2. Cook the rice according to your method.
  3. Whisk rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl.
  4. Once cooked, let rice rest, and then mix in the vinegar mixture.
  5. Prepare chicken by cutting it into strips.
  6. Make tempura batter with flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, and ice water.
  7. Heat oil in a pot to 175 °C (350 °F).
  8. Dip chicken strips in batter and fry until golden brown.
  9. Prepare a bamboo sushi mat with plastic wrap.
  10. Place nori on the mat and cover with sushi rice.
  11. Flip nori, layer with tempura chicken and fillings.
  12. Roll tightly, seal edge, and slice into pieces.
  13. Serve with sauces and garnish.

Notes

Ensure your oil is hot before frying for maximum crispiness. Customize fillings as desired.
