Description

A comforting dish combining creamy grits and flavorful Cajun shrimp, perfect for gatherings and family meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup uncooked grits
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Chopped parsley or sliced green onions or chives, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the whole milk, water, and kosher salt. Bring to a boil.
  2. Add the uncooked grits, freshly ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk until smooth and lump-free, allowing to thicken slightly.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover the saucepan, and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once cooked and liquid is absorbed, remove from heat. Stir in the unsalted butter and grated cheddar cheese until melted. Cover to keep warm.
  5. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the minced garlic, cooking until fragrant.
  6. Add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook for about 2 minutes on each side until pink and cooked through.
  7. Sprinkle Cajun seasoning and lime juice over the shrimp, stirring to incorporate.
  8. Spoon the warm grits onto plates and top with the shrimp mixture. Garnish with parsley or green onions. Serve immediately.

Notes

Adjust spices and seasoning to taste. Pair with fresh salads or crusty bread.
