Description

A flavorful and health-conscious blackened salmon dish that celebrates bold spices and easy preparation.

Ingredients

  • 4 skinless salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lemon (for serving)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cajun seasoning: In a small bowl, combine all the Kickin’ Cajun Seasoning Mix ingredients. Set aside.
  2. Season the salmon: Pat the fillets dry with paper towels. Rub both sides generously with Cajun seasoning, pressing it lightly into the fish. Wash your hands after handling.
  3. Heat the pan: Place a large cast-iron or stainless-steel skillet over medium-high heat. Add butter and olive oil. Once the fat is hot and shimmering, carefully add salmon fillets.
  4. Cook the salmon: Let the salmon cook undisturbed for several minutes until a dark, flavorful crust forms on the bottom. Flip and cook the other side until the salmon is cooked through, approximately 3–4 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
  5. Serve: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the salmon fillets before serving.

Notes

For best results, preheat your skillet for at least 5 minutes and adjust cayenne pepper to taste.
