Description

Blackened red snapper offers an enticing crunch while remaining moist and flaky inside, enhanced by a rich seasoning.

Ingredients

  • 2 (8-10 ounce) red snapper filets
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for spice)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges (for serving)
  • Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine kosher salt, black pepper, cayenne (if using), paprika, thyme, oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder in a bowl.
  2. Pat the red snapper filets dry with a paper towel and coat them generously with the seasoning mixture.
  3. Heat avocado oil in a heavy skillet over high heat until hot and shimmering but not smoking.
  4. Carefully place the seasoned red snapper filets into the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until blackened and cooked through.
  5. Remove the filets from the skillet and let them rest for a minute.
  6. Serve with fresh lemon wedges and garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

Monitor cooking time carefully and rest the fish after cooking for best results.
