Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh shrimp, cleaned and deveined
- 1 cup grits (instant or stone-ground)
- 4 cups water or stock
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- Cayenne pepper, to taste
- Green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Bring water or stock to a boil in a pot. Stir in the grits gradually, whisking as you pour.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
- In a separate skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic until fragrant.
- Toss in the cleaned shrimp. Season with salt, pepper, and a dash of cayenne.
- Cook the shrimp until they turn pink and opaque, about 3-5 minutes.
- Once the grits achieve a creamy texture, stir in butter for added richness.
- Serve the grits topped with garlic shrimp and garnish with chopped green onions.
