Description
A quick and flavorful dish featuring juicy prawns coated in a rich, spicy sauce made with garlic, chilli, and a hint of sweetness.
Ingredients
- 500g raw prawns (peeled and deveined)
- 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil (toasted)
- 3 garlic cloves (very finely minced)
- 2 tsp ginger (grated or finely chopped, optional)
- 1 tsp chilli flakes
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 tbsp Sriracha
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Green onions (finely sliced, for garnish)
- Red chillies (finely sliced or chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over high heat.
- Add half the prawns and sear them for about 45 seconds on each side until golden. Remove into a bowl and repeat with the remaining prawns.
- Remove the skillet from the stove to cool slightly, then turn the heat down to medium.
- Return the skillet to the stove and add the sesame oil.
- Add the minced garlic, ginger, and chilli flakes. Cook until the garlic becomes golden.
- Pour in the water, then add the Sriracha, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Stir everything together and increase the heat to medium-high. Let it simmer for about 3 minutes until the sauce thickens to a thin syrup consistency.
- Return the prawns to the skillet and toss them in the sauce to coat. Reheat and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce reduces and glistens on the prawns.
- Garnish with sesame seeds, fresh red chillies, and sliced green onions as desired. Serve warm with rice or cauliflower rice.
Notes
For best results, use medium to large prawns and adjust spice levels to your preference. Garnish for visual appeal.
