Description
Transform your weeknight dinners with these flavorful blackened tuna steaks, paired with creamy avocado crema.
Ingredients
- 4 (6-ounce) tuna steaks, 1-inch thick
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons blackening seasoning
- 1 large ripe avocado
- 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Rub each side with olive oil, then coat generously with blackening seasoning.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat until smoking hot, about 5 minutes. Place the tuna steaks in the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, adjusting time for desired doneness.
- Meanwhile, prepare the avocado crema by blending the avocado, sour cream or Greek yogurt, lime juice, minced garlic, and salt in a food processor until smooth.
- Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Serve the tuna steaks topped with a generous dollop of avocado crema and garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
Notes
For best results, use an instant-read thermometer to check for desired doneness. Let the tuna rest after cooking to keep it moist.
