Description

Transform your weeknight dinners with these flavorful blackened tuna steaks, paired with creamy avocado crema.

Ingredients

  • 4 (6-ounce) tuna steaks, 1-inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons blackening seasoning
  • 1 large ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Rub each side with olive oil, then coat generously with blackening seasoning.
  2. Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat until smoking hot, about 5 minutes. Place the tuna steaks in the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, adjusting time for desired doneness.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare the avocado crema by blending the avocado, sour cream or Greek yogurt, lime juice, minced garlic, and salt in a food processor until smooth.
  4. Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes.
  5. Serve the tuna steaks topped with a generous dollop of avocado crema and garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.

Notes

For best results, use an instant-read thermometer to check for desired doneness. Let the tuna rest after cooking to keep it moist.
